The late poet Chon Sang-pyong will be remembered during the festival.
The festival commemorating the late “childlike” poet Chon Sang-pyong will be held in Uijeongbu from April 18 to 26. Marking its sixth occurrence, the festival is sponsored jointly by the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation and Uijeongbu Arts Center and organized by the Chon Sang Pyong commemorative foundation.
Among the various events, a recital will be held at the Uijeongbu Arts Center on April 25, where poetry will meet music. With comedian Jeon Yu-seong as a host, singers Lee Dong-won, Lee Sang-eun, and Kim Soo-cheol, and the Korean traditional music band The Forest and Uijeongbu City Choir, will perform.
On April 25 and 26, a literary camp will be held for one night and two days at the Jikdong forest park. Poet Chung Ho-seung will take part to visit the poet’s grave together and give a lecture.
A special exhibition will also be held throughout the festival to show some 200 items Chon left behind, including manuscripts, glasses and a lighter.
For family visitors, a play about the friendship between an old man and a child at a strange town will be staged. Other events will include a book art show and a book flea market.
