The Jaejoo Boys |
|
Members : Yoo Sang-bong, Park Kyung-hwan
The Jaejoo Boys are a folk duo who debuted in 2003 and was nominated for Best New Artist at the 1st Korea Music Awards. They picked the name “the Jaejoo Boys” because they both grew up on Jeju Island and they think of themselves as talented. Jaejoo in Korean means ‘talent.’ The duo is famous for their warm music based on acoustic musical instruments. The duo first met each other in elementary school and have been friends ever since. They performed in a folk music band while in middle school and after they graduated from high school, the two created a band named “Afternoon.” The band didn’t garner much support in those early days, however, when Park Kyung-hwan, one half of the group, won third place at the Yoo Jae-ha Music Competition in 2002, the local pop music scene started to pay attention. The duo met Kim Min-kyu of Deli Spice, who had established the music label “Moon Rise.” They then moved from Jeju to Seoul and worked on their music. The male duo frequently performed at clubs near Hongik University. At the end of 2003, they were nominated for the new artists’ prize at the 1st Korea Music Awards.
