President-elect Lee Myung-bak and Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda have agreed to enhance bilateral ties.
During a phone conversation Friday, Fukuda congratulated Lee on his election victory, saying he would work to further develop the ties between their two countries. He pledged to cooperate closely with South Korea to promote stability and prosperity in Northeast Asia and in the world at large.
Fukuda also invited Lee to visit Japan at an early date to discuss Seoul-Tokyo relations, proposing further exchanges between young reform-minded lawmakers of the two countries.
In response, Lee called for a stronger alliance between Seoul, Washington and Tokyo in working toward North Korea's nuclear disarmament.
