South Korea Wins Gold in Taekwondo and Boxing

Kim Tae-hun won the men’s under-54-kilogram taekwondo final on Friday, bringing home South Korea’s sixth gold medal in the country’s traditional martial arts during the Incheon Asian Games.

Kim, the reigning world champion in the division, beat Taiwan’s Huan Yu Jen 14-3.

South Korea also won two gold medals in boxing for the first time in 12 years at an Asiad. 

Boxer Shin Jong-hun grabbed a gold in men's light flyweight boxing on Friday, beating Birzhan Zhakypov of Kazakhstan 3-0 in the final. Ham Sang-Myeong secured the other gold medal in boxing in the men's bantamweight event, beating out China’s Zhang Jiawei.
 
The gold medals are the first in the sport since 2002 when the country won three gold medals at the Busan Asian Games.
 
In men’s basketball, South Korea beat Iran 79-77 to win a gold medal. The win is the country’s first Asiad gold in basketball in 12 years.
 
South Korea also secured two silvers in the men's and women's regu events in sepaktakraw as Thailand claimed golds in both events.
 
For volleyball, South Korea's men’s team beat China 3-1 to win a bronze medal as it lost to Japan 3-1 in the semifinals held a day earlier.
 
The country also earned two medals in modern triathlon. Jung Jin-hwa won a silver in the men’s individual event and a bronze in the men's team event along with Jung Hwon-ho, Hwang Woo-jin and Lee Woo-jin.
  
One day ahead of the closing ceremony, South Korea ranks second in the medal tally with 77 golds.
