2014 Incheon Asian Games Update

2014-09-25

South Korean swordsmen and gunmen are on top of their games at the ongoing 17th Asian Games in Incheon. The host country has won eight of 10 fencing gold medals so far, while the shooters grabbed 7 medals as of Thursday afternoon.

To give you a bit more details, on Wednesday, South Korean men’s sabre team and women’s foil team won the fencing golds, while shooter Kim Jun-hong picked up two gold medals in the team and the individual 25m rapid fire pistol event.

The women's 50m rifle prone team also won a gold on Wednesday, and earlier on Thursday, Kim Mi-jin brought home the 7th shooting gold in the women’s double trap event.

Meanwhile, South Korean women set a world record in the women's compound archery team event on Thursday. South Korea owns all world records in recurve. But it is notable that it’s the first world-best to have ever been recorded by South Korean archers in compound.

South Korean men's baseball team routed Chinese Taipei 10-0 Wednesday evening, in their second consecutive mercy rule victory. South Korea will next face Hong Kong at 6:30pm on Thursday to wrap up the group stage. It will then take on the runner-up from Group B in the semifinals.

In another gold-news, South Korea's Ji Yoo-jin won gold in the lightweight women's single sculls rowing earlier in the day, bringing home the country's second gold medal in the sport.

Also in rowing, in the men's single sculls final, South Korea's Kim Dong-yong won silver, crossing the finish line 0.5 seconds behind the gold medalist from Iran. The women’s team also grabbed another silver in the quad scull event.

The rowing portion of the Asian Games came to an end on Thursday and South Korea enjoyed its best Asian Games ever with two gold and five silver medals.

Catch the South Korean men’s basketball team in a preliminary match against Jordan at 6:30pm.

If you watch the South Korea vs. Hong Kong baseball match at 6:30pm, you can also see them face off once again at 8pm on the football field.

Swimmer Park Tae-hwan has advanced to the men’s 100-meter freestyle final at the top of the table. He’ll be swimming for another medal at 7:24pm.

It’s another exciting evening here in South Korea. The host remains second from the top in the medal tally with 28 gold medals, 29 silver medals and 26 bronze medals.
