N. Korea Reports Additional Case of FMD
2014-03-26 Updated.

Voice of America (VOA) says another case of foot-and-mouth disease broke out in the outskirts of Pyongyang, North Korea, in mid-January.

VOA said the North reported to the World Organization for Animal Health that an additional case of the infectious animal disease was reported in Sunan District of the North Korean capital city on January 16th.

Pyongyang told the international agency 729 pigs were suspected of carrying foot-and-mouth disease, and of them, six were culled after testing positive for the disease.

Previously, North Korea reported to the world animal health organization in February that foot-and-mouth disease broke out in Pyongyang and spread to Hwanghae Province in January. The North asked the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization to help it contain more outbreaks and stop the disease from spreading more.

Responding to the request, the FAO sent a team of inspectors to North Korea to assess the damage from the latest outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease on March 13th.
