Key Nuke Figure in N. Korea Dies at 88

An official who played a key role in North Korea’s nuclear arms development has died.
 
The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency said Wednesday that Jeon Byung-ho, former Military Supplies Secretary in the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea, died on Monday night due to sudden heart attack.
 
Born in Jagang Province in 1926, Jeon served key posts in the Central Military Commission since 1970 and was charged with the North’s defense industries.
 
In particular, he served as a member of the National Defense Commission and was included last year in a UN sanctions list with his involvement with the North’s third nuclear test.
 
The Central Military Commission and the National Defense Commission decided to hold a state funeral for Jeon and formed an organizing committee for the event. The committee is headed by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and comprises of 88 members.
