Athletes participating in the Pyongyang International Pro-Wrestling Contest, the first event of its kind in 19 years, arrived in North Korea.
The North's state-run Korean Central News Agency reported Friday that the wrestlers, including the wrestler-turned-lawmaker Antonio Inoki of Japan, arrived in the North Korean capital on Thursday.
Inoki had a pivotal role in organizing the event, and was quoted by the KCNA as saying "the goal of the competition is to realize peace in the world through sports and culture".
Seventeen mixed martial artists and professional wrestlers from eight countries are taking part in the two-day event set to begin on Sunday.
They include renowned names like Bob Sapp and Jerome Le Banner.
The last time Pyongyang hosted such an event was in April 1995.
