Putin Ready to Hold Summit with N. Korean Leader

Anchor: Special envoy of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Choe Ryong-hae, held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Thursday. Following the meeting, Lavrov told reporters that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to hold a summit with Kim.

Report: North Korean ruling Workers' Party Secretary Choe Ryong-hae held talks with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Thursday. The meeting marked the first time Choe appeared in public since arriving in Moscow earlier this week as a special envoy of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
 
Choe commented on the letter he brought to the Russian president from the North’s leader, suggesting that the meeting reflected the current status of the North Korea-Russia relations that have recently grown closer.

“The delivery of Kim’s letter will deepen ties between the leaders of the two countries.”
 
Also attending Thursday’s meeting was North Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-kwan who oversees the North’s nuclear issue.
 
During the meeting, officials focused on the possibility of holding a North Korea-Russia summit.
 
In a news conference held after the talks, Lavrov said Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to hold a summit with Kim Jong-un.
 
On the letter addressed to Putin from Kim, Lavrov said the message included the North’s determination to advance ties with Russia and to resolve issues concerning the Korean Peninsula.
 
The officials also discussed the resumption of the six-way nuclear talks and ways to expand cooperation projects involving the two Koreas and Russia.
 
Wrapping up his three-day stay in Moscow, Choe is set to travel to the Russian Far East.
