S. Korea Expects North to Step up Efforts to Idolize Kim Jong-un
2014-12-18 Updated.

The government expects North Korea to step up efforts to idolize its leader Kim Jong-un following the third anniversary of the death of former leader Kim Jong-il.

A government official told reporters Thursday that expressions such as “Kim Jong-un's great Baekdu Mountain nation” and “Great Kim Jong-un” were used at Wednesday’s event to commemorate Kim Jong-il’s death. The official said the expressions may be a precursor to strengthen the idolization of the current leader Kim.

Hwang Pyong-so, director of the general political bureau of the Korean People's Army, used words such as “Great Comrade Kim Jong-un” and “wealthy and prosperous great Baekdu Mountain nation of Kim Jong-un ” during his speech Wednesday.

The government official added that although Kim Jong-un’s sister Kim Yo-jong did not appear on camera at the commemoration ceremony, she could have been present as her position as vice department director of the Worker’s Party of Korea Central Committee prevents her from sitting with the leading group.
