Pyongyang Requests S. Korean Visit to Gaeseong
2014-12-20 Updated.

North Korea has invited the aides of late South Korean President Kim Dae-jung and officials of Hyundai Asan to the inter-Korean industrial park in Gaeseong.

Seoul's unification ministry said Saturday that the invitation, sent from Kim Yang-gon, head of the North Korean Workers' Party’s United Front Department, stated it would like to extend its gratitude toward those who had sent their respects for the third anniversary of the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. The invitation said officials from the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center and Hyundai Asan were welcome to visit the border city on December 23 or 24.

The ministry said the message had been sent through a communication channel at the truce village of Panmunjeom on Friday and that it had been delivered to the invitees. The government said it will consider allowing those who are invited to visit the North should they request to cross the border.

The North's message comes a few days after the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center and Hyundai Asan officials visited the factory park earlier this week to deliver wreaths commemorating the third anniversary of the death of Kim Jong-il.
