Commemorative Medal Released to Mark Inter-Korean Summit
2018-07-17 Updated.

South Korea's state-run coin and bank note manufacturer has released a medal commemorating peace on the Korean Peninsula and the historic inter-Korean summit in April.

The Korea Minting, Security Printing and ID Card Operating Corporation(KOMSCO) unveiled the Korean Peninsula peace medal on Monday.

The medal celebrates not only the April 27th inter-Korean summit but also the North Korea-U.S. summit held in Singapore on June 12th.

The front of the medal captures President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un shaking hands. The back features the two leaders crossing over the Military Demarcation Line during their meeting along with an inscription of the summit's slogan "peace, a new start."

KOMSCO said it is the first time a commemorative medal issued in South Korea includes an image of the leaders of the two Koreas.
