Parties Vow to Practice Pope's Messages

Rival parties have pledged to practice what Pope Francis preached during his Korea visit, saying that the pontiff gave great consolation to South Koreans.

Ruling Saenuri Party floor spokeswoman Kim Hyun-sook said at a news briefing on Monday that as the pope stressed reconciliation and peace, the ruling party will do its best to pass a bill on the April sinking of the Sewol ferry before the extraordinary parliamentary session ends on Tuesday.

Main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD) spokeswoman Han Jeong-ae said at a news briefing that politicians should properly respond to the pope’s message, calling on the Saenuri to legislate the Sewol bill aimed at probing the incident and preventing a recurrence of similar incidents.
