Spain defeated the Netherlands 1-0 early Monday morning, Korean time, to win its first World Cup title.
In a game marred by a record 14 yellow cards, Andres Iniesta netted the winner in the 116th minute of extra-time at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Spain played its first World Cup in 1934 and had never made it to the final match until this year.
The loss was the Netherlands’ third in a World Cup final match, after finishing second in the 1974 and '78 World Cups.
