'A Taxi Driver' Draws 12 Million Viewers

The South Korean movie “A Taxi Driver” has attracted over 12 million viewers.

According to the film’s distributor Showbox, the total attendance of the movie surpassed the 12 million mark as of 1 p.m. Saturday, placing it tenth on the list of the highest-grossing local films.

Into its sixth week since its release on August second, the film starring Song Kang-ho is drawing a daily average of 20-thousand viewers even on weekdays.

Attention is being drawn on whether the film would move up in the rankings of the highest-grossing local films, replacing the ninth-placed “The King and the Clown” and the eighth-placed “Masquerade.”

Directed by Jang Hoon, “A Taxi Driver” describes the experiences of a Seoul City cab driver who incidentally gets involved in the 1980 Gwangju Uprising while taking a German journalist to the southwestern city.
