One of the nation’s most renowned novelists, Lee Cheong-jun, died Thursday at the age of 68.
Lee was suffering from lung cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy treatment. He died at the Samsung Medical Center in Seoul.
The novelist debuted in 1965 with “Leaving the Hospital” (Toewon), which was awarded the New Writer’s Prize in a literary contest sponsored by the journal "World of Thoughts" (Sasanggye). Two years later, he received the Dongin Literary Prize for “An Imbecile and an Idiot” (Byeongsin Gwa Mejeori).
Over four decades, he published many notable novels and short stories. His works include: "This Paradise of Yours” (Dangsindeurui Cheonguk), "Ieo Islet" (Ieodo), "Southern People" (Namdo Saram) and "The Cruel City" (Janinhan Dosi).
