Ceremony Marking March 1 Independence Movement Held Saturday

A ceremony commemorating the 95th anniversary of the March First Independence Movement was held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul on Saturday.
Some three-thousand people attended the ceremony including key government officials, lawmakers, former independent activists and heads of diplomatic missions in South Korea.
At the ceremony, the government presented awards to 106 patriots who fought for Korea’s independence, including the late Kwon Kab-bong, who was incarcerated after taking part in an independence rally in Osaka, Japan in 1943.
Various events marking the historic uprising were also held in cities and provinces nationwide.
The Ministry of Security and Public Administration, along with local governments, held a campaign promoting the hoisting of the national flag. Throughout Saturday, people can visit the National Museum of Korea and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art free of charge.
