Fishermen Urge Government to Crack Down on Illegal Chinese Fishing

Residents of South Korea's western border islands again called on the government to come up with measures to combat illegal fishing by Chinese boats.

A committee comprised of fishermen from the islands held a news conference at Incheon city hall on Monday and clarified their demand to the government.

With the government scheduled to introduce its measures on Tuesday, the committee said the fishermen had waited patiently and it hoped the government would come up with substantial measures. The fishermen are demanding action to stop the illegal fishing and compensation for damages to their fishing gear and other economic losses.
