Gov't to Reduce Students in High School Classes to 24 by 2022

The Education Ministry has decided to reduce the number of students in a high school class from the current 30 to 24 by 2022.

Education Minister Lee Joon-sik on Monday held a meeting with vice superintendents of local education offices to discuss measures to deal with decreasing numbers of students.

The ministry made the decision as the number of high school students is projected to plunge 31 percent from one-point-78 million in 2015 to one-point-22 in 2022.

However, the ministry plans to maintain the number of teachers to reduce the number of students per teacher from 16-point-six to 13-point-three by 2022, which is the average for Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development(OECD) nations.
