Health Authorities Urge Caution Against Yellow Fever

Health authorities called for caution among travelers to Angola due to an outbreak of yellow fever.
According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sunday, 696 cases and 293 deaths were reported in Angola as of May 11th as the disease is rapidly spreading despite an active vaccination campaign.
The outbreak began in the capital of Luanda but has now spread to at least 14 of the 18 provinces in the country, with 64 percent of the cases reported in Luanda.
Suspected cases are being reported in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
The World Health Organization held an emergency meeting Thursday over the yellow fever outbreak and strongly recommended vaccination for people who travel to the affected countries.
Yellow fever is a serious, potentially deadly flu-like disease spread by mosquitoes. Its symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, muscle aches, joint aches and chills.
