South Korea will develop a drone equipped with a weather sensor by fusing information and communications technology with meteorological technologies.
The Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA) said Wednesday that it will invest 680 million won with the Science Ministry to develop the drone. The KMA will start development in October and aim to complete performance evaluations by May 2018.
The drone will be equipped with a micro sensor that can measure the temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, wind direction and wind speed. The drone will also be capable of sending weather observations to meteorological stations in real time.
The data it gathers is expected to be valuable in climate research and weather forecasts.
