A Samsung Electronics executive has been indicted for leaking the firm’s key technologies related to smartphones and chips.
The Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office arrested and indicted the executive, surnamed Lee, on Wednesday for violating the industrial technology outflow prevention and protection law.
The executive is suspected of leaking 68 confidential materials, including 47 pieces of data classified as national core technology, from the Samsung Giheung complex in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, between May and July.
It was confirmed that while on sick leave, Lee entered the complex at night on three separate occasions to take the records and was eventually caught by a security guard while leaving the complex in a car with the materials.
Lee is reportedly denying the allegations, claiming that the materials were taken for research purposes.
