Ex-Culture Minister: Kim Ki-choon Led Blacklisting of Artists

Former Culture Minister Yoo Jin-ryong said on Monday that blacklisting artists critical of the government was a criminal act led by former presidential Chief of Staff Kim Ki-choon.
Yoo made the remark to reporters when he appeared at the special counsel team’s office in Seoul to testify as a witness.
He said that there was such a list and it was managed by Kim when he entered the presidential office. The former chief of staff from August 2013 to February 2015 was arrested on Saturday over suspicions he supervised the drafting of the list of almost ten-thousand names.

While explaining that the list was drawn up to discriminate and exclude those critical of the government by framing them as being “leftist,” Yoo affirmed the act was a crime.

Yoo served as head of the Culture Ministry in the first half of the Park Geun-hye administration between March 2013 and July 2014.
