No. of Newborns Likely to Hit Record Low

The number of newborns in South Korea is expected to hit a record low.

According to Statistics Korea on Wednesday, 30-thousand-300 babies were born in November last year, down nine-point-six percent from a year earlier. The November figure broke the earlier record of 31-thousand-600 set in the previous month.

The monthly figure marked the lowest since the nation started compiling related data in January 2000. The annual figure is also likely to post a fresh low.

The cumulative figure for the first eleven months of last year came to 379-thousand-300, down six-point-seven percent year-on-year.
