S. Korea to Lower Speed Limit to 50 kph on City Streets by 2021

South Korea says it will lower the speed limit on city streets from 60 kilometers per hour to 50 by 2021 in order to reduce traffic accidents involving pedestrians.

The speed limit for narrow side streets will be lowered to 30 kilometers per hour in stages.

It's part of a five-year traffic safety plan to reduce traffic accident deaths from more than four-thousand a year presently to 27-hundred by 2021.

Traffic deaths in South Korea have decreased by an annual average of three-point-nine percent over the past five years, but still remain high compared to Europe and other advanced industrial regions.
