Counsel: Ex-President Set to Provide Her Account

Anchor: Defense attorneys of former President Park Geun-hye say that they will make sure to correct factual misunderstandings in the prosecution's accusations against their client. Before Park's appearance at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on Tuesday, her lawyers told KBS that the impeached former president did not pursue personal gains.

Report: The attorneys for the impeached ex-president Park Geun-hye say they will be more thorough in screening evidence in the criminal procedure than during the impeachment trial.

Attorney Seo Seong-geon of the defense team told KBS that Tuesday's interrogation will be an opportunity for Park to explain her case.

“Until now, she has never been given the opportunity to explain the facts for herself. So, she will mainly focus on explaining about the facts.”

The former president said in her final statement during the impeachment trial that she had felt grateful for the companies when she first heard that the Mir and K-Sports foundations would be established in the efforts led by the Federation of Korean Industries(FKI).

Another lawyer for the ex-president, Hwang Seong-wook, told KBS that she had never forced the companies to provide the money for the foundations.

“Our position is basically that former president Park has not pursued any profit of her own. Also, as far as I know, no witnesses in the prosecution investigation before the impeachment trial or up until now have particularly stated the conglomerates’ heads have bribed her. So, we will make the case that it is not bribery."

On the alleged leakage of classified information, the attorney said that Park did not instruct her officials to hand over presidential documents to her longtime confidante Choi Soon-sil.

“On whether she made specific instructions document by document, our assessment is that it was not like that. Whether or not those documents were classified is also disputable, so we are also making related preparations."

The defense team told KBS that Park practiced with a long list of possible questions before entering into the prosecution.
