Seoul to Turn 2,442 Nonfixed Term Workers into Regular Employees

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has decided to turn two-thousand-442 people working under nonfixed term contracts with its affiliated agencies into regular staff.

The decision was revealed by Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon on Monday. Such a switch will be the first by a local government in the nation.

The Seoul government is also aiming to change one-thousand-87 part-time and contract workers in its affiliated agencies into regular workers.

The Seoul government will also raise the basic wage of its affiliated organizations to ten-thousand won by 2019.

People who work under nonfixed term contracts are considered to have job security but their labor conditions, including wage system, promotion and various job benefits, are regarded to be similar to those of nonregular workers.

There have been calls for change as such workers were paid less than regular workers even though they did the same amount of work.
