Education Ministry Creates TF to Simplify College Entrance System

The Education Ministry has created a task force to simplify the national college entrance exam.

The ministry announced the move on Monday, saying a task force will run through the end of next month in order to reflect the opinions of students, parents, teachers and administrators at high schools and colleges, and simplify the college entrance system, including revising the College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT).

The Moon Jae-in administration has said it will simplify the college entrance exam so students are recruited based only on their high school transcripts and CSAT scores. It also promised to announce the revised college entrance system to be applied beginning from the 2021 academic year by the end of next month.

During his campaign, President Moon pledged to change the college entrance exam from the current fixed, cut-off score system into a criterion-referenced test, but some observers have expressed concerns it will make it difficult for colleges to judge students’ qualifications.
