Prosecutors say they plan to arrest the head of the country’s second largest broadcaster, MBC.
A Seoul court issued the arrest warrant for Kim Jang-kyom whom prosecutors want to question in connection with allegations of unfair labor practices involving MBC's union. Kim has refused a summons from labor authorities three times.
Prosecutors are making few details of the case available, pending investigation and confirmation.
MBC's union and management have locked horns on various occasions over what the union describes as excessive intervention by management under the administration of impeached ex-President Park Geun-hye.
The ruling Democratic Party(DP) issued a statement Friday calling the arrest warrant legitimate, and accusing Kim of trying to live above the law.
Meanwhile, the main opposition Liberty Korea Party(LKP) condemned the issuance of the arrest warrant for Kim, denouncing it as an unprecedented crackdown on the freedom of the press.
