Former NIS Chief Lee Byung-ho Appears for Questioning

The prosecution has summoned former National Intelligence Service(NIS) Director Lee Byung-ho over allegations that the spy agency delivered some four billion won to former President Park Geun-hye's aides.
Lee appeared for questioning before the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Friday morning.
Lee was the last NIS director for Park, holding the post from March 2015 to May of this year.
Lee and two other NIS chiefs during the Park government are suspected of having provided billions of won from the spy agency’s special activities budget to the top office. The NIS is exempted from having to disclose where the funds, allocated for classified security operations, are used.
Lee’s predecessor Nam Jae-joon was grilled for 19 hours on Wednesday. Nam, Park’s first NIS chief, reportedly testified that the spy agency provided 50 million won to the presidential office every month at its instructions during the Park government.
Prosecutors believe that the amount of funds provided doubled to around 100 million won a month during the terms of Lee Byung-ho and Lee Byung-kee.
