Seoul-Gangneung Bullet Train to Launch in December

A high-speed railway system linking Seoul and the eastern Gangwon Province will launch operations next month ahead of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport revealed Monday that a launching ceremony for the KTX Gyeonggang high-speed train line will be held in Gangneung on December 21st with service to officially begin the next day.

Currently, it takes more than five hours to travel between Seoul and Gangneung by train, but the new bullet railway system will shorten that time to 114 minutes. It will take 86 minutes between Cheongnyangni Station in northeastern Seoul and the east coast city.

The government has invested four-point-three trillion won to build the railway that cuts across the Taebaek Mountain range in Gangwon.
