Night Search Fails to Find 2 Missing Persons following Fishing Boat Accident

The coast guard's search for the two missing victims of a boat accident off the coast of Incheon continued throughout the night, but failed to find them as of Monday morning.

The Incheon Coast Guard conducted an intensive search in waters near Yeongheung Island into early Monday, where the nine-point-seven ton fishing boat capsized after colliding with a 336-ton tanker.

About 40 vessels, including 30 coast guard patrol ships, and three aircraft were mobilized for the night search.

The Navy and coast guard officials searched the area using 342 illuminating flares.

The search will continue on Monday with additional ships.

Meanwhile, the Incheon Coast Guard arrested the captain and a crew of the tanker without warrants on charges of professional negligence resulting in death.

Thirteen people were killed and two are missing after the fishing boat, carrying two crew and 20 passengers, capsized after colliding with the tanker in waters near Yeongheung Island at around 6:10 a.m. Sunday.
