Prosecution Operating Task Force to Improve Investigation Methods

Prosecutor General Moon Moo-il announced on Tuesday that the prosecution has set up a new task force to overhaul existing investigation methods.
Moon said in a news briefing at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office in Seoul that various issues were recently raised over prosecutors’ raids and treatment of people who are subject to probes.
The prosecution’s move apparently comes in response to critical voices about prosecutors’ over-the-top raids and practice of intentionally leaking confidential information. Such voices were strongly raised after Byun Chang-hoon, a prosecutor of the High Prosecutors’ Office in Seoul, committed suicide while being probed for allegations that he disrupted an investigation into the National Intelligence Service’s illegal cyber activities.
Also during Tuesday’s news conference, Moon vowed to swiftly conclude investigations into corruption scandals, saying the prosecution will exert best efforts to wrap up probes on key cases before the end of the year.
