Sacked MBC Producer Nominated as New MBC President

A former MBC producer who was sacked due to a conflict with its former leadership has been nominated to lead the country’s second largest broadcaster.

The board of directors of the Foundation for Broadcast Culture(FBC), the largest shareholder of MBC, voted Thursday to choose Choi Seung-ho over his two rivals as the new president of MBC.

MBC will hold a general shareholders’ meeting later Thursday to approve his nomination.

It's quite the comeback for Choi, who started working at MBC as a producer in 1986 and was the face of PD Notebook, an acclaimed investigative journalism program on MBC since 2010.

However, he clashed with the former leadership of the broadcaster for his investigative reporting on former President Lee Myung-bak’s controversial Four Major Rivers Restoration Project.

The then-MBC leaders, many of whom were appointed by the conservative government, dismissed him, citing his participation in the company’s labor strike.

Since leaving MBC, he has worked as a producer and anchor for independent media outlet, Newstapa.
