Prosecution to Grill Key Figures in DAS Investigation

Key figures who are believed to hold crucial information about allegations of corruption against former President Lee Myung-bak will likely face questioning this week.

An official of the prosecution told reporters Wednesday that the investigation into auto parts maker DAS, which is suspected of belonging to the former president, is gaining traction.

DAS came under suspicion of managing slush funds with borrowed-name accounts after it was revealed in 2008 that 12 billion won was transferred to the company from 17 different accounts.

Among those likely to be summoned is one figure surnamed Cho, an employee at DAS' financial department, who is suspected of creating the slush funds, and an employee of its subcontractor, Lee, who is suspected of managing the funds with Cho.

They could also question the company's former head, Kim Seong-woo, who was in charge when the slush funds were created.

The prosecution suspects former President Lee is the real owner of DAS and used the company to create some 12 billion won in illegal funds.
