Jeju Airport Repeats Temporary Shutdown due to Heavy Snow

Jeju International Airport temporarily shut down again on Thursday due to heavy snow and ice, leaving thousands of travelers stranded and flights canceled.

The airport temporarily banned the use of its runways for three hours on Thursday morning and for one hour in the afternoon. It shut down for the third time at 10:55 p.m. to have its workers shovel the snow and ice from the airstrips.

As of midnight, about 220 flights were canceled, 14 flights were forced to take detours and 163 were delayed.

The Jeju office of the Korea Airport Corporation said that flights on Friday will transport all of about seven thousand travelers stranded at the airport for the past two days.
