Works of S. Korean Poet Ko Un to Be Erased from School Textbooks

Several big-name South Korean literary figures will have their works erased from school textbooks after sexual misconduct allegations were made against them.

The Education Ministry said on Thursday that it inspected the textbooks at primary and secondary schools containing the works of those embroiled in controversy over alleged sexual misconduct, including poet Ko Un and theater director Oh Tae-suk, and plans to have them removed from the textbooks.

The removal process is expected to be completed by May.

Meanwhile, Ko was confirmed to have resigned as the head of the South Korean body working with the North to produce a unified Korean dictionary. The Unification Ministry, which oversees the body, said Thursday that Ko expressed his intention to step down late last month.
