Sales of EV in S. Korea Already More than Last Year

The number of electric vehicles sold in South Korea so far this year is already more than double the sales recorded for the whole of last year.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, electric vehicle sales rose from five-thousand-900 units in 2016 to 13-thousand-800 last year. It says more than 30-thousand EVs have been sold in South Korea since the turn of 2018, including preorders.

The ministry added that a state subsidy designed to help drivers buy electric vehicles has already surpassed the budget earmarked for it.

The ministry said it will keep pushing for a plan to spur innovative growth with future-oriented vehicles announced in February, adding it will increase the number of fast-charging stations to ten-thousand by 2022 by installing one-thousand-500 annually.
