The Navy has received its top-class Aegis-class destroyer, the Yulgok Yi-i, upon the completion of its construction.
The Yulgok Yi-i is the second Aegis-class destroyer to be built in Korea. The first was the King Sejong the Great, which was launched in December 2008. Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering signed the agreement to build the Yulgok Yi-i in June 2006 and completed it after four years and two months of construction.
The Navy says the destroyer is capable of tracking some one-thousand targets at any given time and attacking about 20 of the targets simultaneously.
Equipped with about 120 missiles and long-distance torpedoes, it can cruise at a maximum speed of 30 knots and accommodate 300 crew members.
