Sales of 'Heat-Not-Burn' E-Cigarettes on Rise in S. Korea

Sales of "heat-not-burn" electronic cigarettes are rising fast in South Korea.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and the cigarette industry on Wednesday, 160 million packs have been sold since the launch of the first brand of its kind in the nation, iQOS, in May of last year.

Monthly sales stood at one million packs last May but it quickly rose to ten million packs in July and 20 million in September.

In response, local health authorities plan to roll out policies to reduce smoking of e-cigarettes.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, manufacturers will be required to put photographic and written warning messages on e-cigarette packages from late December.
