Top Office Aims to Take Lead in Regional Economic Integration Talks

Seoul's presidential office expressed hope that South Korea would be able to take the lead in the current discussions on regional economic integration after its latest free trade deal with China.

President Park Geun-hye's top economic adviser Ahn Jong-beom expressed such hopes at a briefing Friday, underlining that the country has reached FTAs with all major economies that are discussing economic integration.

Ahn said among APEC's 21 member countries, South Korea has already reached or plans to soon reach FTAs with 16 of them. Those excluded from the 16 include Japan, Mexico, Russia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
