S. Korea to Assist Rice Production in El Salvador

South Korea has launched a four and a half million dollar irrigation project to improve El Salvador's agricultural productivity.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on Thursday held a launch ceremony for the project at the El Salvador's Foreign Ministry.

KOICA President Kim Young-mok at the event explained that the project will help El Salvador cope with droughts by utilizing its potentially abundant water resources and improve its food production.

While expressing his thanks to the South Korean government, El Salvadorean Foreign Minister Hugo Martínez expected that the project would also resolve the country's climate change problems while boosting its agricultural productivity.

KOICA said that El Salvador is suffering from extreme drought due to climate change and is interested in developing underground water resources.
