Consumer Sentiment of S. Koreans in 50s Lowest Since April 2009

The consumer sentiment of South Koreans in their 50s dropped to its lowest level since April 2009.

According to the Bank of Korea (BOK) on Sunday, the consumer sentiment index (CSI) of household heads in their 50s came to 96 in January, down two points from the previous month.

It dropped to the lowest in seven years and nine months since April 2009.

The figure dipped for three consecutive months since it dropped from 105 in October 2016 to 100 in November last year.

Meanwhile, the comparable figure for people aged under 40 marked 112, while that for people in their 40s posted 108 in January.

The CSI for people in their 50s posted a sharp on-year decrease of seven points in January, the largest drop among all age groups.

The figure for people in their 20s and 30s edged down by just one point, while that for people in their 40s dropped by three points in January year-on-year.
