Trade Watchdog Chief Says He’ll Communicate with Conglomerates

Fair Trade Commission(FTC) Chairman Kim Sang-jo said that he will meet with representatives of the country’s four major conglomerates.

The newly appointed watchdog chief made the remark in a meeting with reporters at the government’s complex in Seoul on Monday, saying he wants to actively communicate with the stakeholders of his conglomerate reform policies.

Revealing his plans on the government’s conglomerate reform initiative, Kim emphasized that he will strengthen communication with the local business community to lead the conglomerates to move in the direction society and the market expect.

Emphasizing companies are the partners in corporate reform, Kim said communication will eliminate uncertainties and raise predictability regarding the related policies.

Kim stressed that conglomerate reform should not be a one-time event, and requires sustainable improvement through the efforts of all concerned parties and market forces.

He added a positive campaign in which small- and mid-sized companies cooperate with conglomerates can be an efficient way of realizing conglomerate reform drive.
