S. Korea Ranked 7th Most Advanced Digital Economy

An international survey has ranked South Korea among the most advanced digital economies in the world, but the country is exhibiting a significantly slowing momentum in terms of further digital advancement.

The ranking is according to a joint survey released on Monday by Mastercard and Fletcher School at Tufts University in the U.S.

The Digital Evolution Index 2017 placed South Korea as the seventh most advanced digital economy out of the 60 surveyed countries, and the second in the Asia-Pacific following Singapore which was placed sixth.

However, South Korea was ranked 49th of 60 in terms of the pace of digital evolution between 2008 and 2015. Due to its low potential for further digital economic growth, South Korea was categorized as a “stall out country” along with the U.S., Canada, Australia and the Netherlands.
