S. Korea Temporarily Removes Tariff on Imported Eggs

The government will remove the customs tariff on imported eggs for the rest of the year to help lower the price of eggs.

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a revised rule on the tariff quota to lower the customs tariff on imported eggs to zero.

A tariff quota is a temporary measure to lower a customs tariff on a set amount of certain goods to help stabilize their domestic prices or improve the competitiveness of the related domestic industry.

Under the measure, 28-thousand tons of eggs are expected to be imported without tariffs by the end of the year.

The price of eggs has skyrocketed in South Korea this year following the breakout of avian influenza.
