Competition Heats up in Smartphone Market

Competition is heating up among South Korea, the U.S. and China in releasing high-tech smartphones.

In early hours on Wednesday, Apple revealed its iPhone X. The disclosure came a decade after Apple first began to make iPhones.

The most attractive feature of the new flagship phone is its facial recognition system and 3D animated emojis that reacts to the user’s facial expressions.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics held a presentation in Beijing on its Galaxy Note 8 smartphone. The phone has large internal storage and a wide screen which are popular features among the Chinese.

Though it ranks number one in the world’s smartphone market share, Samsung has not seen strong sales particularly in China. With its Note 8, the South Korean electronics giant is apparently seeking to change that.

However, market observers say that Chinese smartphone makers, including Huawei and Xiaomi, are on the trails of Samsung and Apple, having been equipped with technology and price competitiveness.

In June and July, Huawei outperformed Apple and placed second in the world in terms of smartphone sales after Samsung.

LG Electronics has also joined the competition by releasing its V30 strategic smartphone.

Meanwhile, South Korea was excluded from the first list of countries for iPhone X release set for November third.
