Naver Will Not Expose Comments Ahead of Local Elections

South Korea's leading Web portal, Naver, says that it will ensure comments on stories related to politics will not appear on the same page as the articles, ahead of the June 13th local elections.

Such comments had been visible underneath the articles but users will need to click on a link to read them during the campaign period.

Naver also started to post "out-links" which direct online users to the original media site where the story was posted and will post comments only in chronological order. Previously, comments with the most likes were posted first.

Users will also be banned from posting comments through their Twitter or Facebook accounts.

The moves come in light of an online opinion rigging scandal in which the number of "like" clicks for online comments was rigged with a computer program.
