S. Korea, US, and Japan Biz Lobby Groups Discuss Investment in N. Korea

The leading business lobby groups of South Korea, the U.S. and Japan held a series of meetings in Washington to discuss cooperation for possible private investment in North Korea.

Members of the Korean Federation of Industries(FKI), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Japan Business Federation attended the closed-door meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday. U.S. government officials and chiefs of major companies also attended the gatherings.

The FKI said that the participants discussed cooperation among the three nations for normalizing economic relations of the two Koreas and rebuilding the North Korean economy.

Also discussed were trade issues related with the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement and the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The meetings came at a time when the U.S. hinted at allowing private investment in North Korea in exchange for its dismantlement of nuclear program.
