Moon Meets Samsung Electronics Vice Chief Lee in India

President Moon Jae-in has met with Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong in India.

Moon, who is staying in India for a four-day state visit, attended a ceremony to mark the completion of Samsung's new smartphone plant in the northern city of Noida on Monday with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Presidential press secretary Yoon Young-chan said that right before the ceremony, Moon met with Lee in a waiting room for five minutes. Hong Hyun-chil, chief executive of Samsung India Electronics, was also present.

In the meeting, the president congratulated Samsung on the completion of the Noida plant and thanked the firm for playing a big role in helping India's rapid economic growth.

Moon also asked Samsung to increase its investment and employment in South Korea.

Lee expressed his gratitude for Moon's visit to the plant and vowed to work harder.

It was the first time the Samsung heir met the president since he was released from prison in February after serving a year-long term for his role in a massive corruption scandal that led to the ouster of former President Park Geun-hye.
